On the platform.
"I'm the victor." The Chunin pressed his Kunai to Uchiha Kiga's neck.
Cold sweat beaded on Kiga's forehead—had this been an enemy he would already be dead. Yet Kiga smiled. "Chunin-sama, the time limit has long passed."
"Of course. I'm aware. I must say, Uchiha brat, your skill is impressive." The Konoha Chunin spoke slowly. "You pass."
"Thank you, Chunin-sama." Kiga bowed and leapt from the ring, glancing at Tian Yuan with confidence and a trace of mockery.
"What does that mean—he thinks he's so great?" Anko complained.
"Anko, don't get angry at a dog; his skill is only so-so." Tian Yuan shook his head.
"A dog?" Anko laughed. "Tian Yuan, that's harsh—if Kiga heard you, he'd be insulted."
"I suppose he'd want to kill me." Tian Yuan remarked.
"As long as you get it." Anko huffed.
"Soon he won't have that thought." Tian Yuan shrugged. When it's my turn, I'll give my all. Besides Sharingan and Armament Haki, I'll use every skill—these are mortal techniques perfected.
"Next, Tian Yuan." the referee called. Another student had failed.
"It's my turn." Tian Yuan's form blurred; he vanished beside Anko and reappeared atop the platform.
"Such speed!" Anko stared in awe.
"Impressive." The Konoha Chunin's pupils narrowed. "You must be Tian Yuan."
"I am." Tian Yuan replied, surprised—hadn't they just called his name?
"Excellent." The Chunin's eyes gleamed. "They say you're a genius. Let's see your strength."
"You will." Tian Yuan held his Kunai ready.
"Begin." the referee announced.
Unexpectedly, the Chunin struck first. His Shuriken became streaks of light, whistling toward Tian Yuan. The speed dwarfed earlier students' attacks—this was true Chunin power. Even Uchiha Kiga would struggle to block such an assault.
The audience gasped: could Tian Yuan be seriously injured or killed?
But to everyone's surprise, Tian Yuan met the Shuriken mid-air and knocked it aside.
"Your skill is considerable." the Chunin acknowledged.
"You're not bad yourself." Tian Yuan replied calmly.
"Then come." The Chunin rushed him.
Tian Yuan did not flinch—he charged.
Bang. Their Kunai-clash rang like thunder, sparks flying.
On the scarred platform, they moved lightning-fast—no one could track both. One misstep, and a ninja would die. It was taijutsu at Chunin level.
"I didn't expect Tian Yuan to match a Chunin so well." Anko whispered, astonished.
"This is his power?" Uchiha Kiga trembled, face pale. He'd thought to rival Tian Yuan—now he felt foolish.
"No—one day I'll be stronger. I'm Uchiha clan." Kiga vowed. Yet Tian Yuan's prowess lay burned into his mind.
"Impressive—Tian Yuan holds his own against Chunin." Tsunade's eyes flicked.
"Don't worry, Tian Yuan's no ordinary child." Jiraiya laughed; he had sparred with Tian Yuan days before.
"Though their taijutsu is matched, Tian Yuan is at a disadvantage." Orochimaru observed.
"Ninjas aren't just taijutsu." Jiraiya countered. "And Tian Yuan's taijutsu is strong."
Thud, thud. After deflecting the Chunin's Kunai, Tian Yuan's right leg became a gale of strikes—blindingly fast.
"Konoha Great Whirlwind." His kick struck the Chunin. A larger version of the Konoha Whirlwind.
"Bang." The Chunin crossed his arms, blocking, yet was driven back.
As Tao Yuan closed in, the Chunin formed seals and vanished underground.
"Earth Release: Heart-Cutting Technique."
Hands of earth burst up, grabbed Tian Yuan's leg, and with violent force drilled him into the ground—only his head remained visible.
"I win…" The Chunin reappeared beside Tian Yuan, but before he could finish, Tian Yuan's body dissolved into smoke.
"Clone Technique—when did you—?" the Chunin gasped.
"Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique."
