The cabin-like structure of Building C was shrouded in darkness, and Chen Shang could feel an overwhelming sense of unease. His sixth sense screamed at him, while his body's heightened state and the activation of the [Refined Panic] ability told him that the enemy he was about to face far outclassed him in terms of power.
Without wasting any more time, Chen Shang made a quick decision—he turned around and sprinted back toward where he had come from.
The monsters inside Building C were beyond what he could handle, and worse still, there wasn't just one of them. A confrontation would lead to certain death. Though Chen Shang wasn't afraid, he wasn't exactly looking for an opportunity to die.
As he ran, muttering curses under his breath, the livestream comments exploded:
[Wow, I've never seen the streamer run away before.]
[So this is the art of swearing, huh?]
[Isn't it weird that the usually calm streamer seems so rattled now?]
[Now that you mention it… yeah, what's going on here?]
The reason behind Chen Shang's frustration and expletives became clear soon enough—he had just realized why Building C's power was out.
To explain, the layout of the asylum was crucial. Buildings A and B were positioned symmetrically, with identical structures and setups, though Building B was far more dilapidated. But Building C was different. It was a temporary structure, a small cabin behind Building B, and that raised a significant issue.
Because Building C had been constructed as a temporary facility, its systems were incomplete. One of the most critical missing elements was a dedicated power source. Its electricity came from Building B.
When Chen Shang cut the power to Building B earlier, he hadn't considered that this action would also cut off power to Building C. This oversight had now come back to bite him.
As a shrill laugh echoed from behind him, piercing through his body and rattling his soul, Chen Shang's discomfort grew.
Still, he had managed to gain enough distance—he had already passed the graveyard and could see the rear entrance to Building B.
Kicking open the back door, Chen Shang rushed into the dark corridors of Building B.
Inside, the patients in the first-floor hallway, who had previously emerged from their hiding places, froze and turned to face the back door. They had watched Chen Shang leave not long ago, but now, to their shock, he had returned, barging through the door once again.
If they could speak, they'd likely be cursing him.
But what could they do? They had no choice but to retreat.
The group scattered, each patient scurrying into their respective corners and hiding places, trembling in fear.
Chen Shang, however, had no time for these weaklings.
"No other choice now… I'll have to go with that risky plan," he muttered to himself.
[No way! The streamer has a backup plan?]
[So what's 'that' plan? Is he ever going to stop keeping us in suspense?]
[Well, let's watch and find out!]
With the comments buzzing, Chen Shang rushed through the first floor of Building B, this time making no effort to suppress his footsteps. He bolted through the corridors at full speed.
Once he reached the front door, he took out the flashlight from his backpack, flicked it on, and started shining it wildly toward the upper floors of Building B. Then, he yelled:
"Really? Really?! There's no way someone could lose at hide and seek, right? No way!"
As his voice echoed, there was a sudden, loud crash of breaking glass.
From the third-floor window, a massive human-spider hybrid creature burst through the glass, revealing itself under the beam of Chen Shang's flashlight. It was the boss—transformed into spider form.
The sight of it was enough to give anyone chills. Though it retained the shape of a small boy, its body had swelled to more than twice its original size. Four additional arms had sprouted from its sides, and with all eight limbs gripping the walls, it crawled toward Chen Shang with terrifying speed, resembling a true spider.
"Damn, that's one freaky creature," Chen Shang muttered, turning to flee even as he made the quip.
Whether it was the comment or his earlier taunts that enraged the boss, the creature let out a series of high-pitched screeches. Its speed was far greater than when it had fought Chen Shang on the fourth floor, closing the gap between them rapidly.
Thankfully, with the [Refined Panic] buff enhancing Chen Shang's speed, he managed to stay just out of the spider's reach, though the distance between them was shrinking.
Without looking back, Chen Shang dashed straight for Building A, diving through the rear entrance and slamming the door shut behind him, locking it with a swift motion.
