Chen Shang slipped into the darkness, his eyes scanning the surroundings for a place to hide. His gaze settled on the far end of the hallway.
Meanwhile, the boy had already begun counting.
[Wait, is he really going to play hide and seek now?]
[Didn't the streamer mention that getting caught means game over?]
[So, where's he gonna hide?]
Chen Shang moved quickly and quietly, making his way towards the end of the hallway. If B Building's layout mirrored that of A Building, then…
He reached the end of the hall and found exactly what he was looking for—a main power switch embedded in the wall. With a satisfied grin, he reached for it and pulled the lever down. Instantly, the entire building was plunged into darkness, and the faint, flickering lights on the fourth floor were extinguished.
[Why turn off the lights? Isn't that more dangerous?]
[Without lights, doesn't the boy turn back into the spider?]
[Maybe he's trying to hide better in the dark?]
Turning off the lights was exactly what Chen Shang had planned. In the darkness, the boy wouldn't be able to rely on his sight to find him, just as Chen Shang lost the ability to see the boy. The crucial factor was that the boy's spider form was part of the hide-and-seek game. Whether the lights were on or off didn't matter—once the counting ended, the boy would transform and start the chase.
Knowing this, Chen Shang was fully aware that his best chance for survival was to avoid being found at all costs. If the boy caught him, it would be game over, and with the spider's superior strength, Chen Shang wouldn't stand a chance.
Even though he was a vampire, Chen Shang was still a low-level thrall. His healing abilities were exceptional, but they had limits. If the boy tore his head from his body, it would all be over.
Moving silently, Chen Shang made his way towards the staircase. But as soon as he saw the old, creaky stairs, his face twisted into a grotesque expression of frustration.
[Why the face?]
[Didn't you guys notice? The stairs are going to make noise.]
The wooden staircase was so worn that any step would produce a loud creak, practically announcing his location to the boy. There was no way to descend quietly.
But there was no time to waste. Chen Shang looked back at the boy, who was still counting, then gritted his teeth and grabbed the railing. He vaulted over the edge, avoiding the stairs entirely.
Like a nimble primate, he swung from railing to railing, using his hands and feet to lower himself down without touching the stairs. His movements grew faster as gravity pulled him downward.
Finally, at the second-floor landing, he lost his grip and slammed into the wall with a loud thud.
[OMG, human Tarzan!]
[That crash looked painful…]
[Such a crazy move, but it worked!]
Chen Shang felt like his whole body had been smashed to pieces, but he didn't have time to rest. The impact had made some noise, but not enough to alert the boy. He quickly moved to change his position and hide in the darkness.
"I'm coming to find you!" the boy's voice echoed down from the fourth floor. His childish tone quickly shifted to a monstrous snarl, sounding nothing like a human voice.
