Kamar-Taj—once so tranquil—now buzzed with urgency. Countless Sorcerers gathered at every corner, bright Portals lighting up the sanctuary. Apprentices, who had been training across the grounds, all vanished into their quarters—everyone except Zhao Yu.

He was attending the regular council of the Sorcerer Supremae. Seated in the great hall were several Sorcerer Supremae of Kamar-Taj. Zhao Yu's presence surprised none of them; they had grown accustomed to this anomaly appearing among them.

"Grand Sorcerer Mordo, why issue an emergency summons?" asked one of the Supremae, his voice icy. This was Reinhardt, newly elevated after Casillas's betrayal. He had been fighting demons in the outer realms, his cloak still stained with dark red blood.

The emergency summons was a rule set by the late Supreme Sorcerer: only when three or more of the Supremae remaining at Kamar-Taj agreed could it be declared. Once the summons went out, any Sorcerer in the field had to return at once—except those guarding the three Great Sanctums. Now every Sorcerer had answered the call. Something dire had occurred.

Reinhardt, unaware of the details, glared at Mordo. Mordo, having regained his composure, waved his hand. A virtual light-screen appeared before them. "This is what's happening in New York right now. That is why I've issued the emergency summons."

The Supremae gasped as the holo-display showed swarms of Chitauri.

"They're Chitauri!"

"These cosmic locusts dare invade Earth!"

"When the Supreme Sorcerer returns, we will show them our might!"

News traveled fast at Kamar-Taj—the Chitauri were infamous across the universe. Mordo surveyed the assembled Supremae. "You see the gravity of this situation. We must enter wartime readiness immediately!"

"Agreed!"

"Agreed!"

"Agreed!"

"Excellent. Prepare to send our Sorcerers through the New York Sanctum in waves. Open the Mirror Dimension and fix the battlefield there. Eradicate these damned Chitauri on Earth and let them know our world is not to be trifled with!"

"Yes, Grand Sorcerer Mordo!"

The Supremae departed with grim expressions. Mordo turned to Zhao Yu. "You will come as well. It's time you saw a true battlefield. We Sorcerers of Kamar-Taj are no greenhouse flowers."

"Yes," Zhao Yu replied solemnly, and followed Mordo outside.

On the open grounds, tens of thousands of Sorcerers had already formed up. Veteran Sorcerers led squads of ten Apprentice Sorcerers; each Grand Sorcerer marshaled ten veterans, creating endless phalanxes. This was the power the Ancient One had nurtured for centuries. Though only hundreds of Supremae remained on Earth—most were stationed across countless astral realms—they had all returned.

With dozens of Sorcerers weaving spells together, a towering golden Portal flared open.

"Sorcerers—advance!"

"Defend Earth!"

At Mordo's gesture, the ranks surged into the Portal. They would pass through the New York Sanctum and deploy into the Mirror Dimension battlefield.

Kamar-Taj Sorcerers never fought in the mundane world. As the first wave entered, no one in New York noticed—only odd reports of Chitauri flying midair, then vanishing. Entire warships blinked out, too. Amid such chaos and masked by Magic, no one suspected.

In the sky, an invisible golden Portal opened. Before many Chitauri could reach Earth, Sorcerers yanked them into the Mirror Dimension. On the ground, the Avengers sensed the pressure drop, though the Chitauri numbers remained overwhelming. Even with most torn into another realm, the survivors still pressed a tremendous assault.

Inside the Mirror Dimension, countless Sorcerers formed battle arrays. Their radiant golden light nearly blinded the void. Chitauri weapons proved ineffectual against their might. Even Apprentice Sorcerers could fell several Chitauri at once. Yet the alien hordes numbered in the hundreds of thousands, their swarms so dense that they carpeted the sky.

Fortunately, aided by the Mirror Dimension, Sorcerers split the Chitauri into manageable fragments, combining powerful fusion Magics to hold the line. Still, casualties mounted.

"Need reinforcements! Medics to sector C!"

"Fusion Magics ready!"

"Mirror Dimension stability waning!"

"Support the A-point offensive!"

At the rear, the three coordinating Supremae felt the strain. "Damn Chitauri—where did they get so many war machines?" cursed Hamir, the logistics Supremo now on the front lines. He oversaw medical teams and supply lines.

"These invaders have razed countless civilizations," Wang said calmly. "With their resources, bioweapons production is trivial."

"Damn it!" Hamir swore again.

"Execute the reserve plan. Rotate fresh Sorcerers forward and pull the front line back to regroup. Hamir, show me your Hundred-Wizard Fusion designs at once!" Wang ordered.

Orders crackled across every channel. Hamir scrambled to comply as Wang's face grew ever grimmer. He knew that if this continued, the Sorcerers would suffer grievous losses.
