Casillas's return was big news throughout Kamar-Taj.

But Zhao Yu had no intention of getting involved.

He remained in his room, cultivating.

He knew all too well that Casillas was a two-faced troublemaker.

Entangling himself with Casillas would only bring complications.

That man once led a group to side with Dormammu.

Worse still, he hung the Librarian inside the library.

Could the Ancient One not be furious?

Anyone who spent too much time around Casillas would surely be investigated.

Zhao Yu didn't want that, so he skipped the welcome ceremony entirely.

He'd simply claim he knew nothing—after all, he was just an apprentice, and nobody cared about his rank.

With that settled, Zhao Yu resumed his cultivation in peace.

Yet trouble found him anyway.

"Knock, knock, knock."

Reluctantly, Zhao Yu ended his training and opened the door.

A complete stranger stood there.

Still, in Kamar-Taj, he had nothing to fear—no one there could intimidate him.

"Who are you?" Zhao Yu asked, puzzled.

He was rather solitary in Kamar-Taj and barely knew anyone beyond his few instructors and Xiang Nan, his fellow apprentice.

Who was this person, and why had he come to his door?

The middle-aged man bowed stiffly.

"You may call me Sorcerer Devon," he said haughtily.

"I serve under Master Casillas.

Master Casillas wishes to see you."

Devon sounded as if offering charity.

Zhao Yu sized him up, doubting the man had taken his morning medicine.

Even Casillas himself wasn't this arrogant—where had Devon found such audacity, and how had he even entered Kamar-Taj?

"I'm sorry, I'm busy."

With that, Zhao Yu slammed the door in Devon's face.

Devon cursed furiously outside but dared not break in—in Kamar-Taj, violating someone's private quarters was a grave offense.

Livid, he stormed away.

Zhao Yu muttered "idiot" and returned to his cultivation.

But moments later, another knock came at his door.

"That fool still hasn't quit, huh?" Zhao Yu grumbled.

If this weren't Kamar-Taj, he'd teach Devon a lesson about disturbing others.

Suppressing his irritation, he opened the door again—only to find Casillas himself standing there.

"Greetings, Master Casillas," Zhao Yu blurted out.

"Please, no need for formalities," Casillas replied, bowing slightly.

"I've come to apologize.

Devon is inexperienced and may have troubled you—my sincere apologies."

Zhao Yu nearly dropped his jaw.

This was the famously proud and stubborn Casillas?

He looked nothing like it.

Understanding dawned: Devon must be one of Kamar-Taj's native-born "new generation."

Kamar-Taj's population included many descendants of Sorcerers—natural-born magic users who often looked down on commoners, much like wizarding nobility in other worlds.

Yet such people were rare, and most had been expelled by the Supreme Sorcerers.

Only Casillas's intervention could have kept Devon here.

"Master Casillas, no apology is needed," Zhao Yu said, reaching to steady him.

But Casillas ignored the gesture.

Straightening, he asked, "I've heard you're quite talented?"

"Oh, that's just rumor," Zhao Yu replied modestly.

"Kamar-Taj is full of stories."

Casillas merely nodded.

"Come with me. Let me see this new generation of Kamar-Taj."

He turned and walked away, giving Zhao Yu no chance to refuse.

Helpless, Zhao Yu followed.

As the two departed, Wang and Hamir watched from within the Mirror Dimension.

"Wang, is it safe to let Casillas take him off like that?" Hamir fretted.

"This is Kamar-Taj," Wang replied.

"I suppose you're right," Hamir admitted, shaking his head.

In Kamar-Taj, no one defies a Supreme Sorcerer's will.

"Zhao Yu's luck is amazing," Hamir remarked.

"Not luck—Casillas would inevitably do this," Wang said.

"That man is powerful but has a fatal flaw: he's too proud and stubborn.

That's easy to exploit."

Wang had calculated everything.

He understood that Casillas couldn't bear being outdone in teaching apprentices.

So drawing Zhao Yu in was only natural—and a perfect way to win him over.

With a satisfied look at the direction Zhao Yu and Casillas had gone, Wang concealed his triumph.

Hamir eyed him.

"Wang, I never knew you were so devious," he said.

"You fooled me with that simpleminded act."

Hamir realized the battle-minded were the dirtiest strategists of all.

He vowed to be more cautious in future.
