Lin Chen remained calm. Miao Yunfei seemed a bit annoyed at his rash words. How could he casually call someone a murderer without proof, then say it was a joke?

Such things require evidence.

Zhang Tian'ai glanced at Lin Chen's handsome face for a few seconds. Knowing Lin Chen's personality, she understood he wouldn't say such things without reason.

Bao Qingshan and his wife complained a little about Lin Chen, then Zhang Tian'ai invited them to sit on the sofa, as she had more questions.

After they sat, Lin Chen focused his gaze on both and asked, "Bao Qingshan, I understand you recently invested money at the urging of the deceased Wang Xuefeng, only to lose it all—is that right?"

Bao Qingshan clenched his fists. "Yes. I guess you could say we're friends. Over the years, I had some spare money, and he convinced me to invest. The first time I put in 10,000 yuan, and I quickly made it back. The second time I invested more and made some profit too."

"One day, he suddenly told me he had a sure-fire project, planned to invest himself, and urged me to seize the chance."

"So I put nearly all my savings in. But... I lost everything. Officer, look at where I'm living now... sigh... I shouldn't have been so greedy."

Bao Qingshan hung his head. His scruffy beard added to the defeated look.

His wife held their young daughter and looked mournful and lonely.

"After losing money, you went to Wang Xuefeng's home and argued with him, right?" Lin Chen asked.

"Yes," Bao Qingshan said. "Officer, I argued with him. That's normal. Put yourself in my shoes: if you were told to invest and lost money, wouldn't you blame the person who convinced you?"

"During the argument, you said twice that Wang Xuefeng would meet a bad end," Lin Chen said coldly.

Bao Qingshan frowned. "I was really angry then. Besides cursing him, I even insulted all the women in his family."

"Officer, you can't suspect me of murder just because I cursed him, right?"

"Of course not," Lin Chen shook his head slightly. Then he asked, "On the day of the incident, you arrived at your friend's house around 8 p.m. Where were you before then?"

Bao Qingshan looked at his wife and casually rested his hand on her shoulder. "Before 8, I was at home with my wife and daughter. Since we were going to a friend's house for dinner, we didn't cook and just watched TV in the living room."

"Are you sure you didn't leave?" Lin Chen asked.

"No," Bao Qingshan shook his head firmly.

Lin Chen then asked some other questions, many of which had been asked before by Miao Yunfei and Zhang Tian'ai.

Bao Qingshan's wife and daughter could confirm he was in the living room before 8 p.m.

"Excuse me, I'm going to the bathroom," Bao Qingshan's wife suddenly said, frowning. She put the daughter aside and went to the bathroom.

After she left, Lin Chen turned to Bao Qingshan. "Alright, I've asked all I need. Now please come with us to the crime scene."

"Go to the crime scene?" Bao Qingshan frowned and looked reluctant. "Officer, why do you want us to go there? Someone died there. It's unsettling."

Lin Chen smiled slightly. "What's so unsettling about it? It's broad daylight. Don't be scared. We need you there to cooperate with the investigation."

"You're going, so go," Miao Yunfei said coldly, showing no emotion.

Bao Qingshan glanced at her cold face. "Okay, wait a moment. I'll change clothes and wash up."

He walked to the inner room to change.

Only Lin Chen, Zhang Tian'ai, Xia Miaoyan, and Bao Qingshan's little daughter remained in the living room.

Lin Chen glanced around, his eyes landing on a plastic bag near the dining table.

He walked over and saw some snacks and daily necessities inside.

When he saw one particular item, he smiled slightly and took out his phone to snap several pictures of the bag.

Miao Yunfei and Zhang Tian'ai were curious why Lin Chen was photographing a plastic bag but didn't ask.

After finishing, Lin Chen walked to the shoe cabinet by the door, spotted a pair of leather shoes, picked them up, and took some photos.

Then he muttered to himself, "Exactly as I suspected."

Though his voice was low, the two women heard it.

"Exactly as you suspected?" Miao Yunfei asked, puzzled, "What exactly do you mean?"
