At the alley entrance, Xia Miaoyan clenched her hands nervously, staring into the dim alley.

"That man looks suspicious. I wonder if Master is safe..." she thought, glancing nervously at the corpse nearby.

From the dark alley's depths, a figure appeared.

It was Lin Chen, calm-faced, walking out holding the belt of the man he had caught.

"Master..." Xia Miaoyan ran up to him.

The man Lin Chen dragged had dislocated arms and could not exert strength. He kicked wildly and yelled for Lin Chen to let go.

"Master, are you okay?" Xia Miaoyan asked as she looked Lin Chen over.

"What could happen to me?" Lin Chen replied. "Stop calling me Master—I'm not your Master."

After speaking, Lin Chen quickened his pace and dropped the man beside the corpse.

Originally nervous, the man's eyes widened in terror seeing the corpse.

"Ah! What are you doing? What is this? Stay away from that dead person!" the man screamed.

He tried to scoot away using his legs and shoulders but was restrained by Lin Chen.

"Why pretend you don't know there's a dead man? The one on the ground—you killed him." Xia Miaoyan said, staring fiercely at the man.

The man glared at Xia Miaoyan, shouting, "Hey, don't falsely accuse me! I didn't kill anyone. It wasn't me."

Xia Miaoyan, startled by his hostile expression, glanced at Lin Chen and felt reassured.

She continued, "Not you? Hmph. That person fell from the building, and you appeared quickly after. Then you ran away when you saw me and Master. If you didn't kill him, why run?"

"I didn't! I didn't!" the man shouted hoarsely.

Bystanders had gathered, many guessing the man was involved with the corpse.

"That guy is really strong. He probably weighs over 150 pounds. Lin Chen lifted him with one hand easily."

"I admire his courage, standing so close to the corpse."

"He must be a cop. Otherwise, who stays so calm near a dead body? Look at the woman next to him—her lips are pale from fear."

The crowd murmured.

The man struggled fiercely, begging Lin Chen to release him. He denied knowing the corpse or killing him.

Lin Chen watched his expression closely, saying, "Don't worry, the police are coming."

Not long after, sirens wailed, and three police cars pulled up nearby.

Zhang Tian'ai was first out of the passenger seat.

Lin Chen glanced and met her eyes; they nodded silently.

As Zhang Tian'ai approached, she noticed Xia Miaoyan and then the man on the ground.

Her first thought: Lin Chen must have caught the suspect. That was good news.

"Lin Chen," Zhang Tian'ai said, pointing to the man, "Is he the killer?"

Lin Chen shook his head, "Just suspicious. Not confirmed yet."

"Okay," Zhang Tian'ai said, then began securing the fall site.

The officers quickly set up a police line.

The forensic doctor took off his case, put on gloves, and started examining the body.

A female officer took photos of the scene, capturing Lin Chen near the corpse as well.

Following Lin Chen's instructions, several male detectives entered the building the victim fell from.

Lin Chen kept watching the building's entrance; no one else emerged except the suspicious man after the victim fell.

After finishing the scene investigation, Zhang Tian'ai personally took Lin Chen's statement.

Lin Chen recounted how he passed by, saw the body, and how the suspicious man suddenly ran out.

Xia Miaoyan also gave a statement. She said, "Luckily Master pulled me back. Otherwise, the corpse could have fallen on us. From such a height, it would have injured us."

Zhang Tian'ai had been focused on the statement, but hearing Xia Miaoyan say "Master," she looked up sharply and asked, "Master? Lin Chen, did you take an apprentice?"

"No, she just won't stop calling me that," Lin Chen replied helplessly.
