Dark fog had enveloped the area, gradually obscuring the moonlight in the sky. Inside an abandoned factory at the center of the mist, a fierce battle was unfolding, and Chad was rushing toward it. He held a communication device with two functions: one for speaking on the general channel, which was used for communication among the ten teams, and another for internal team communication, offering better signal quality.
Generally speaking, awakened individuals would prioritize speaking in their own team's channel rather than the public one.
Suddenly, a piercing scream erupted from the public channel, sending chills down Chad's spine. "What the...!?" He was startled and quickly turned up the volume, catching a few muffled sentences. Before he could make them out clearly, a sharp "crack" sounded, cutting off the signal entirely. Just before the interruption, a strained voice had shouted, "Second-stage!"
Chad's face turned grave. He had witnessed the power of a second-stage eerie being before, and he knew that even an entire team would struggle against it. Although confident in his own abilities, he worried about the other Awakened individuals. With that thought, he quickened his pace, rushing toward the center.
When Chad arrived, he found the abandoned factory filled with smoke and the sounds of fierce fighting. It was evident that a major battle was underway. "It's the captain!" "Captain! You're finally here!" "Captain, come this way!" Torey, Garfield, and the others waved at him from the factory entrance.
Chad approached, glancing at the chaos inside. "What's the situation?" he asked quickly. Torey furrowed his brow and shook his head. "It's a second-stage eerie being, even more troublesome than the Frost Stone Golem we encountered last time!" Garfield looked shaken as he added, "This thing can actually split into multiple bodies! It can turn into hundreds or even thousands of small individuals, and each one is not weak! Team 314 has been completely wiped out!"
The other two team members nodded heavily, confirming, "If it weren't for Garfield's Phantom that brought us out, our team might have suffered casualties too!" Standing at the entrance, Chad noticed many milky white, worm-like clones inside, with each Awakened individual facing around ten of these tough-skinned clones.
Chad withdrew his gaze and examined his teammates' injuries, saying calmly, "I understand. You guys go out first. I'll handle this." Torey was stunned, shouting anxiously, "Don't be reckless! Eerie Beings are different from each other! For this second-stage eerie being, we need to rely on swarm tactics!" The other teammates also urged him, "Yeah, yeah! Captain, don't do something rash!"
However, Chad had already stepped inside, leaving them stunned. As he walked, he waved his hand behind him, saying, "I know. Don't worry. I have a plan." With that, he entered without looking back, leaving Torey and the others in a state of shock.
Bang! A dark golden dagger, engulfed in crimson and golden flames, flew through the air, brutally pinning down a milky white worm clone just in time to save an Awakened individual who was on the brink of death. "Th-thank you!" the one-star Awakened stammered in a daze. Chad waved his hand, and the flame-enchanted dagger returned to him, half of his body covered in flames. "You're welcome. You guys go out now. I'll handle this eerie being. I have a way to deal with it."
The crowd gasped, shocked by Chad's confidence. "What's going on? Is this guy crazy for wanting to fight a second-stage eerie being alone?" they thought. "No! This is too risky!" many exclaimed, shaking their heads in refusal. But Chad remained calm, assuring them, "Don't worry, just go. If you stay here, I'm afraid you'll all be killed."
The onlookers exchanged glances, unsure whether to trust him. After a moment of hesitation, they gritted their teeth and left together. Once they were gone, a smile appeared on Chad's face. He looked at the thousands of milky white worms without panic, except for a slight feeling of disgust. "Since it's hard to kill them individually, I'll just destroy you all together! Relying on clone tactics won't work against me!"
Chad pressed his palms together, intense hellfire gathering at the center. The fireball grew larger, expanding to over 300 feet in height. The scorching heat baked the factory building, causing its surface to curl and distorting the air around it. With a low shout, he commanded, "Explode!"
Rumble!!! The fireball violently expanded and exploded, transforming the entire factory into a sea of fire. The tremendous commotion shook the heavens and the earth, incinerating countless bricks, tiles, and rubble into ashes. Everything within a hundred-meter radius turned to dust, and the shockwave triggered a small earthquake.
The Awakened individuals who had retreated outside felt the ground shake beneath them, causing them to lose their balance. They stared in disbelief at the factory, now engulfed in flames. They couldn't comprehend that just moments ago, it had been a massive building. Stunned and wide-eyed, they stood foolishly in place, grappling with the incredible sight.
