During those seven days, Bai Zhe didn't hunt outside.

One afternoon, near the pine tree, he spotted a little bird with wet wings from the rain.

That bird gave him 10 Evolution Points.

Notably, when he returned after eating the bird, he saw a figure rush out of the hollow—it was the squirrel whose nest he had taken.

The squirrel hadn't left during this time.

At night, Bai Zhe didn't know where it went, probably resting on the branches.

During the day, it either stood at the hollow's entrance glaring at him or locked eyes with him when he emerged.

At first, Bai Zhe thought the squirrel was going to rest in the hollow, but he then saw it gnawing a chestnut—taking food from the nest.

Since then, Bai Zhe always left the hollow for a while each day, giving the squirrel time to gather food.

Seven days passed, and with only one bird eaten, Bai Zhe felt frustrated.

But finally, after seven days, the weather cleared.

"The rain's finally stopped."

Bai Zhe poked his head out and flicked his tongue at the quiet forest.

He feared the rain might last half a month, making hunting impossible and delaying his third evolution.

Eating the bird had brought his Evolution Points to 32, but he still had a long way to go to level up.

He hoped the prey here was as plentiful as the previous area.

As he thought this, his gaze drifted to a branch on the left, where the squirrel stood.

Compared to before, it seemed less afraid of him now.

Shifting his gaze, Bai Zhe looked toward a grassland about a hundred meters away.

The sun was rising there—probably east.

He prepared to climb down, but then-

"Whoosh!"

A sharp eagle cry startled him. He froze and looked toward the sound.

Above the grassland's cliff, a black eagle circled, then landed on a jutting rock.

In its talons was a fat hare.

"Is that the Falcon?"

Bai Zhe's heart tightened. Days ago near the termite nest, he worried about avoiding the falcon, yet here he was right under its nose.

"Am I walking into a trap?"

He sighed, feeling deflated. Maybe he'd have to move again.

"No... Maybe not. This forest can shield me from the falcon's attacks. Now I need to see if there's enough prey here."

Relieved, Bai Zhe was eager to climb down and explore.

"Squeak."

A faint cry caught his attention. The squirrel trembled, clearly scared by the falcon's presence.

It probably wanted to retreat to the nest to calm down but dared not because Bai Zhe blocked the entrance.

Understanding its feelings, Bai Zhe climbed down.

Dewdrops hung on the moss, and though the forest's temperature was rising, crawling on it felt cool.

He spent a whole day exploring the forest.

He covered about 500 meters radius, except the grassland to the east.

Unfortunately, he didn't find a better home.

But the good news was prey was abundant—frogs, mice, birds, lizards, Hares, all kinds of small animals.

To the south, higher up the mountain, he found a small pond with many swimming fish.

When he had time, he could try fishing to expand his diet.

He also spotted a one-meter-long Green Bamboo Snake there.

This was a common venomous snake, hiding in trees or bushes, hard to see. But Bai Zhe's keen snake sense caught its scent easily.

After a brief encounter, Bai Zhe left. Sharing the territory didn't warrant conflict with plentiful prey.

He hunted as usual that day.

With his size, hunting success improved greatly.

That day he caught a subadult gecko, a large tiger-patterned frog, and four adult Forest Frogs.

When he returned to the pine, his stomach was empty again.

He gained 23 Evolution Points: 5 from the gecko, 10 from the tiger frog, 8 from the four Forest Frogs.

His total Evolution Points reached 55!

Climbing back up to the hollow, he was startled by noises inside.

The squirrel screamed in terror, accompanied by frantic rustling.

Flicking his tongue, Bai Zhe sensed an unusual scent—not his, nor the squirrel's.

Combined with the sounds, he concluded-

The squirrel was under attack.

In an instant, Bai Zhe came to this conclusion.
