Clack.
Clack.
In the gloomy, sunless Bone Burial Ground, a Skeleton walked over the ground littered with shattered bones.
This Skeleton was a shade of grayish white.
Though its entire body lacked a single trace of flesh, consisting only of slender bones, it still gave off an oddly "robust" impression—standing out starkly from the other Skeletons on the battlefield.
This was Su Mu.
In the span of just a few hours, Su Mu had hunted down over a hundred Skeletons in the surrounding area.
These Skeletons didn't just provide him with over a thousand Experience Points—they also significantly boosted his Four Attributes.
At this moment, Su Mu's attribute panel looked like this:
[Name]: Su Mu
[Race]: Undead - Skeleton
[Level]: 4 (32/400)
[Status]: HP 38, MP 15
[Attributes]: Strength 3.5, Agility 4.0, Constitution 3.7, Spirit 1.5
[Talent]: Erosion (Unique Talent)
[Skills]: None
In just a few hours, his level had risen from 1 to 4. All of his attributes—except for Spirit—had doubled or even tripled. It was an impressive haul!
However, Su Mu still wasn't satisfied.
In the beginning, he could absorb about 0.2 Attribute Value from each pile of bones. But later on, this amount dropped to 0.1.
And now, it took multiple Skeleton corpses to gain even 0.1 Attribute Value.
The return on his [Erosion] Talent was diminishing.
This was, in fact, easy to understand.
This was the outer edge of the Bone Burial Ground. The Skeletons wandering here, even among the weakest monster race—the Skeleton Clan—were at the very bottom of the hierarchy.
Level 1–3 were weak Little Skeletons.
Level 4–6 were normal Skeletons.
Level 7–9 were strong Skeletons.
Even a "strong" Skeleton had pitiful Four Attributes.
Take Su Mu, for example.
From level 1 to 4, he received three rounds of Attribute Value increases.
From level 1 to 2, his Constitution rose by 0.5;
From 2 to 3, his Strength increased by 0.5;
From 3 to 4, his Constitution rose again by 0.5...
In other words, each level-up gave only 0.5 Attribute Value, and even that was randomly distributed.
With such growth, even a Skeleton leveling from 1 to 9 would only gain around 4 total Attribute points!
Spread across Strength, Agility, and Constitution, that's about a 1.3-point increase in each.
Which meant that, excluding Spirit, a level 9 strong Skeleton would have its main attributes hover around 2.0.
Far below Su Mu's current Four Attributes.
Su Mu's [Erosion] Talent essentially absorbed the essence in the corpses of defeated Skeletons to strengthen his own Bone Body.
When Su Mu was weak, each Skeleton was at or above his level in strength. Their bones were tougher and denser than his, so absorbing their essence significantly strengthened him.
Which reflected in Attribute Value gains.
But as Su Mu's level increased and his attributes improved, his bones became stronger than those of the Skeletons he fought. So the essence from their bones no longer provided much enhancement.
Which reflected in diminished Attribute Value gains.
So it wasn't that [Erosion] was getting weaker—it was that the Skeletons were no longer sufficient nourishment for Su Mu's growing power.
According to Su Mu's calculations, only when a Skeleton's Four Attributes reached at least half of his own could its essence significantly improve his bone strength.
There was no doubt—
Only level 8 or 9 Skeletons had those stats.
Yet in the outer zone of the Bone Burial Ground, even level 7 Skeletons were rare, let alone level 8 or 9.
Without high-level Skeletons, he was stuck farming weak and normal ones. As a result, his Attribute growth slowed dramatically.
Now, he needed to kill several normal Skeletons or a dozen weak ones just to gain 0.1 in Attribute Value.
"It's time to go deeper into the Bone Burial Ground."
After one last glance at his panel, Su Mu picked up a leg bone he'd taken from a level 7 strong Skeleton and stepped lightly toward the deeper regions of the Bone Burial Ground.
...
The Bone Burial Ground was massive.
Even with Su Mu's speed, it took him half a day just to reach the inner region from the edge.
Along the way, he casually killed several more Skeletons.
While they didn't provide much in terms of Attribute Value, they helped raise his level from 4 to 5—and with it, his Constitution increased from 3.7 to 4.2, becoming Su Mu's highest stat.
From the edge of the Bone Burial Ground onward, the deeper he went, the denser the death aura became.
Likewise, the more intense the death aura, the stronger the Undead it nurtured.
At the outer edge, level 1–3 Skeletons were common, level 4–6 ones were sparse, and level 7–9 Skeletons were nearly extinct.
But in the inner zone, level 7–9 Skeletons were the norm!
With Four Attributes more than double those of the strongest Skeletons, Su Mu didn't hesitate. When he reached the boundary between the outer and inner zones, he headed straight toward the inner region.
Only—
As soon as he entered the inner zone, Su Mu halted.
Because—
A special Skeleton appeared in his vision!
"LV9. Skeleton Soldier!"
