Lin Chen's words startled everyone in the room. The veteran detectives, Zhang Tian'ai, Fang Xinzhou, and Wang Tao all looked at him with puzzled expressions.

Liu Xiaojing was the informant, roommate and classmate of the two victims, and seemingly the only person who entered the dorm that night. Their prior investigations and interrogations of her had been very thorough, yet they found nothing suspicious.

No one understood why Lin Chen insisted she was suspicious.

"Liu Xiaojing is suspicious?" Fang Xinzhou raised his eyebrow and asked, "What's wrong with her? She has no motive and no time to commit the crime."

Zhang Tian'ai looked at Lin Chen with a confused expression and said, "Mr. Lin, you just said Liu Xiaojing isn't the killer. How come you say she's suspicious as soon as she leaves?"

Lin Chen ignored Fang Xinzhou and said to Zhang Tian'ai, "I said she's not the killer to mislead you. When I questioned her, Liu Xiaojing lied."

"Lied?" an older detective frowned. "Which part?"

"The first lie was when I asked about her relationship with the victims. Did you notice her expression? After I asked, she averted her gaze for a second and shrugged."

"Generally, when answering questions, avoiding eye contact and an unconscious shoulder shrug strongly indicate lying."

"The second lie was when I asked if she had conflicts with the victims. She again shrugged her shoulders while answering."

Fang Xinzhou immediately countered, "Liu Xiaojing is just a student. She's nervous at this terrifying crime scene — that's normal. She looked away because she was embarrassed, which is also normal. As for the shoulder shrug, that's nonsense — maybe it's just a habitual gesture while talking."

An older detective nodded, "Xiao Fang makes a fair point."

Lin Chen calmly rubbed his temple and said, "No, you don't understand psychology. The shoulder shrug wasn't habitual — in the later questions I asked, she did not shrug or avert her gaze."

"Moreover, when I finished questioning and deliberately said she wasn't a suspect, I saw a trace of relaxation in her eyes."

"Relaxation?" Zhang Tian'ai said, "If we suspect her as the killer, she'd be nervous. When you said she's not the killer, it's normal to relax. I'd feel relieved too."

Lin Chen waved a finger and said, "She wasn't simply relaxed — it was a sly kind of relaxation. It's the look of someone who's done wrong, been suspected, yet made others trust her again."

"Also, when she left to return to class, her hands unconsciously wiped her pants. That gesture only happens when the palms are sweaty. So, she was very nervous and sweating when answering my questions."

"If she were just an innocent informant, why would she lie or be so nervous?"

Fang Xinzhou sneered, "Alright, your reasoning sounds good. But since you suspect Liu Xiaojing, how do you explain her alibi?"

"I interrogated everyone who dined with Liu Xiaojing that night. They confirmed she left the restaurant after nine o'clock, at which time the two female students were already dead."

"I never said Liu Xiaojing was the killer," Lin Chen said. "I only think she's suspicious, and I intend to verify her alibi myself."

Afterward, Lin Chen said to Deputy Director Sun, "Old Sun, have someone keep an eye on Liu Xiaojing. I want to meet her teachers now."

"Alright," Deputy Director Sun nodded and said to Zhang Tian'ai, "Xiao Ai, you must accompany Mr. Lin on his investigation at school. Do your best to meet his requests."

"Understood," Zhang Tian'ai replied.

Lin Chen headed outside. At the dormitory entrance, he suddenly stopped and said to Deputy Director Sun, "Old Sun, have someone check the school's surveillance room. Copy all recent footage featuring Liu Xiaojing. I want to see it."

"No problem," Deputy Director Sun agreed. After Lin Chen, Zhang Tian'ai, and Wang Tao left, he assigned two veteran detectives and Fang Xinzhou to handle this.

Once everyone left, only Deputy Director Sun and another veteran detective remained. The older detective approached Deputy Director Sun and said, "Deputy Director, I… I really doubt Lin Chen's ability…"

Deputy Director Sun smiled slightly and said, "Wait and see. I think he'll surprise us again, just like before."

"Before?" the older detective asked with suspicion, "Has that Lin Chen solved cases before?"

Deputy Director Sun smiled mysteriously, clasped his hands behind his back, and said nothing.
