When Su Zhu took a taxi back to the noodle shop, she was startled to see a long line stretching out in front—about fifty meters long.
People tend to follow the crowd. Many passersby hadn't originally planned to eat hand-pulled noodles, but seeing the queue, their curiosity got the better of them. They asked around and heard that this hand-pulled noodle shop was amazing, so good that if you didn't line up, you couldn't get any. Since it was almost noon and they had to eat somewhere anyway, they decided to try these famous noodles.
One person, two people, three people… everyone thought the same way, and the line grew longer and longer.
"The boss is back!"
"Great, finally we can eat noodles!"
"At last, it wasn't a waste of time waiting!"
Those near the front cheered excitedly when they saw Su Zhu get out of the taxi.
"Thank you all for waiting," Su Zhu greeted the customers as she opened the door.
"Whoosh..." Many rushed inside to grab seats, and the Hand-Pulled Noodle House quickly became packed.
After opening the door, Su Zhu went to the toy store to pick up Chenchen. The warm-hearted toy store owner Chen Shufen followed along, worried Su Zhu wouldn't be able to manage everything alone, so she came to help.
At the entrance, Su Zhu looked at the sign and thought for a moment before changing the break time to 1:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Chenchen was still growing and needed a nap every noon. Also, Chenchen had been discharged from the hospital for a week and had to go back for a routine check-up in the afternoon, so the business hours couldn't start too early.
While Su Zhu was busy in the kitchen, Lin Fanglong's BMW stopped not far from the Chenchen Hand-Pulled Noodle House.
Inside the car, both stared dumbfounded at the long line outside the shop.
How could the business be so booming?
The woman glanced at Lin Fanglong in the driver's seat with a surprised voice: "Is this the 'broken noodle shop' you said barely makes any money in a day?"
"My second uncle runs a Hand-Pulled Noodle House. Seventy percent profit margin is considered low. Man, with a business like this, he must be rolling in money!"
Lin Fanglong looked as if he had seen a ghost: "I've eaten Su Zhu's noodles before, and the taste was just average. How could her business be this good? Haozi, do you think she hired fake customers?"
Seeing Su Zhu's noodle shop so busy, Lin Fanglong felt especially uncomfortable. How could a woman like her make money? It was totally unfair!
"No way," the woman shook her head. "Hand-pulled noodles aren't high-end. People eating here are mostly locals. Why would she fake it for anyone?"
"To be honest, I want to try those noodles now. So many people lining up—what's so special about them?"
"Lin, why don't we go try some?" The woman was eager.
"I won't. What's so good about those 'poor people's' noodles?" Lin Fanglong said angrily.
The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. He had come to slap Su Zhu's face and make her unable to survive on this street. But things didn't go as planned.
At that moment, a middle-aged man holding a lunchbox quickly walked toward the noodle shop. The woman hurriedly called out to him: "Excuse me, are you here for the hand-pulled noodles?"
"Yes!"
The woman asked: "With so many people in line, is it really that good?"
"It's delicious, amazing! I've never tasted noodles this good. I had two bowls this morning, and now I'm back for more. I'm even taking some home!"
"Alright, I gotta get in line or they'll sell out again!"
"If you want to eat, hurry up and line up. I heard they only serve until 1:30!"
Saying that, the man ran to the end of the queue.
"Lin, should we go look for Su Zhu?" the woman asked.
"Not now. Let's go back." Lin Fanglong's face was ashen.
He wasn't stupid. With Su Zhu's business booming like this, showing up now would only give her face.
As the BMW turned around and left, Lin Fanglong glanced at the noodle sign across the street with a trace of regret in his eyes.
Between 11:30 and 1:30, Su Zhu sold seventy more bowls of noodles.
In the middle of it all, Chen Shufen called two neighbors to help as Su Zhu was too busy.
At 1:40, after finishing the last bowl, Su Zhu finally had a moment to come to the front hall.
Seeing over ten people still waiting outside, she felt guilty and hurried over to apologize:
"I'm really sorry, there's no more noodles. I also need to get my child to sleep, so I probably won't open again until after 6 PM. I'm very sorry."
"If you want noodles, please come back tonight. Sorry for the inconvenience."
Su Zhu thought the waiting crowd would be upset for not getting noodles after such a long wait, but surprisingly, everyone was very understanding.
"It's okay, go take care of your child."
"Yes, it's already 2 PM, better let the kid rest."
"We live nearby, we'll come back tonight."
"Waiting a bit longer isn't a problem. You must be tired, go rest."
"By the way, boss, what time do you close tonight?"
When they learned the shop would be open until 8:30 PM, everyone left satisfied.
Watching the customers disperse, Su Zhu turned and went back inside the noodle shop.
