Boom ~

Bai Ye twisted, the Fireball Spell narrowly missing him, scorching the ground with a large black crater.

But he didn't relax because heavy footsteps sounded.

Looking up, the Butcher was charging, wielding a blood-stained greatsword, roaring as it swung down.

The sword's whistle was fierce and sharp.

"Damn, that fast?"

"Good thing I'm not slow either."

Bai Ye smiled, deftly dodging the strike like a dance, then countered with a deep slash, cutting into the Butcher.

Blood gushed out.

The wound quickly blackened and rotted before his eyes, flesh decaying, blood flowing nonstop.

The Rotten Tachi's effect triggered.

The Butcher howled in pain, as if disturbed by the wound.

It spun a whirlwind slash with huge force, slicing a stone pillar like foam.

Bai Ye kept distance and avoided the attack.

Next moment, the Butcher's dog head opened wide, shooting a fireball.

"Too slow, haha."

Bai Ye laughed and easily dodged.

With Clearwind Boots boosting speed, dodging Fireball Spell was easy unless caught face-to-face.

Before Bai Ye could celebrate, the Butcher's other head spat a glob of dark green poison.

"Damn, another move?"

He barely dodged again.

The poison corroded the ground on contact.

The Butcher chained attacks — a bit smarter than a mindless brute.

But Bai Ye was confident he could handle it.

Taking a deep breath, he tangled with the Butcher, wielding the Rotten Tachi to leave rotting, bleeding wounds.

Though the Butcher felt no pain or hindered movement, it was taking damage, just missing a killing blow.

After minutes, the Butcher bore a dozen deep wounds.

Roaring wildly, it became irritated, charging with a trail of blood on the ground.

"Time to die."

Bai Ye steadied himself and unleashed a blaze of golden-white flame, igniting the Butcher.

The fire consumed the Butcher, but it didn't slow down — it moved faster like a blood-red shadow.

"Damn, not dead yet?"

Bai Ye nervously backed away.

Another slash missed by a hair, cutting a deep crack in the ground.

"Divine Flame Spell!"

He unleashed the spell again, fire snakes engulfing the Butcher's entire body, burning flesh and blood rapidly.

The Butcher stiffened.

"Almost dead?"

Bai Ye hoped.

But it quickly recovered, still menacing, just slower.

"Why so tough?"

Bai Ye sighed and kept dodging.

Luckily for Clearwind Boots; dodging this bulky but fast melee fighter was hard without them.

Another heavy slash shattered a pillar.

Despite the flames scorching it almost bare, the Butcher still fought fiercely.

Clearly near death — just needed a final strike.

Bai Ye drank a Magical Power potion, restoring energy.

"As tough as a butcher, but it's over now."

He raised his hand and sent out a final Divine Flame Spell blast.

The Butcher finally collapsed, dead.

"Finally."

Bai Ye exhaled, shook his sore hands, and rested.

After a moment, he collected the Butcher's remains.

[Collect success: You obtained Butcher's Heart.]

[Butcher's Heart.]

[Description: An alchemical concoction powering the Butcher, source of its life force. Though its original function is lost, it can enhance one's physique.]

"This is the longest fight I've had in-game — and it's worth it, haha."

He immediately used it.

A light entered his character's body in reality.

Bai Ye's eyes widened.

A warm flow coursed through his limbs and bones, bringing a moist sensation.

His physique visibly improved over a minute.

"Awesome."

He smiled, pumped his fist, feeling his strength and attributes like constitution and speed doubling.

His combat power surged.

The Butcher's Heart alone was worth more than the Magical Power potions he used.

Not to mention two chests and a rune still awaited.

This haul was a windfall — pure profit!

Bai Ye was so happy he wanted to kiss the cub but restrained himself since it was asleep in the Shelter.

The cub shivered, sensing unease, curling closer to Tiger Mom's warm fur.

After savoring his power-up, Bai Ye approached the glowing rune before the big door.

With anticipation, he took it down.

A prompt appeared:

[You obtained Mage Skill Rune: Arcane Missile Spell.]

[Mage Skill Rune: Arcane Missile Spell.]

[Description: Skill Rune usable by Mages, grants the Arcane Missile Spell.]

"Holy crap, a divine skill!"

Bai Ye was shocked and then ecstatic.

Arcane Missile Spell was a basic Mage attack, less powerful than Fireball Spell, but still impressive.

More importantly, it had low mana cost.

He could cast five Fireball Spells with his current Magical Power but could cast fifteen Arcane Missiles!

Though Fireball was AoE, Arcane Missile was single-target.

Its power could one-shot creatures like Screechers.

"This is divine skill!

I've been playing melee Mage for no reason, thinking I was a warrior."

Now with this skill, he could proudly be a true Mage!
