"Is this Charmander any good?"
Chu Kelian stared at the image of Charmander in the Pokédex, then turned to ask Gu Xin.
To be honest, she wasn't entirely convinced this little lizard could actually become a dragon, but the image was admittedly quite cute.
However, that wasn't her main concern. Chu Kelian's curiosity lay elsewhere.
"What do you mean, Miss?" Gu Xin asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Look, Squirtle can spray water. So, can this Charmander spit fire?"
Chu Kelian pointed to Squirtle, who was currently clinging to Bai Qianqian's leg. Clearly, her priorities were… unique.
"What are you talking about, Kelian? There's no way a pet could breathe fire," Bai Qianqian said, exasperated.
Sure, Squirtle could spray water, but water-spraying animals existed in nature. Could she point to one that breathed fire?
Lin Sheng nodded vigorously in agreement. Spitting fire? This rich girl's imagination is something else.
"Why not? It's called Charmander, after all," Chu Kelian retorted defiantly.
"Miss Chu has a point. Why not?" Gu Xin interjected with a smile.
The three of them froze.
"Of course, Charmander can breathe fire. It's a fire-type Pokémon. And it's not just Charmander," Gu Xin said, glancing at Vulpix, who was lazily yawning in Lin Sheng's arms.
"Sir, would you mind if I borrowed your Vulpix for a demonstration?"
"Uh… sure," Lin Sheng replied, his curiosity piqued.
He placed Vulpix on the ground, and the little fox stared up at him in confusion.
"Sir, as Vulpix's partner, you can ask it to use Ember. Give it a try," Gu Xin explained, placing a disposable water cup in front of Vulpix.
Lin Sheng hesitated, glancing at the curious expressions of Bai Qianqian and Chu Kelian. His cheeks reddened slightly.
"Vulpix, use Ember," he said softly, his voice tinged with anticipation.
And then…
Under the astonished gazes of the three, Vulpix opened its mouth and spat out small, red embers, engulfing the paper cup.
The heat was intense, and before long, the cup softened and collapsed as the water inside boiled over.
Silence.
"What the—?!" Lin Sheng's jaw dropped as he instinctively exclaimed in Mandarin.
His Vulpix, the little six-tailed fox, had just breathed fire!
Bai Qianqian and Chu Kelian were equally stunned, rendered speechless by the display.
"Pokémon are extraordinary creatures. They possess various attributes and abilities, allowing them to use corresponding elemental powers," Gu Xin explained with a smile.
"You may find it hard to believe now because it's unfamiliar, but in time, you'll get used to it."
Pokémon weren't just adorable pets; their abilities were a key part of what made them unique.
"What an amazing little fox!" Chu Kelian murmured, still staring at Vulpix in awe. It could really breathe fire!
"Attributes and abilities..." Bai Qianqian was the first to recover, her mind racing. The terms sounded familiar.
Suddenly remembering something, she rummaged through her bag and pulled out her pink Pokédex.
Yes, that was it!
She aimed the Pokédex at Vulpix, and its screen displayed Vulpix's image.
"Beep~ Vulpix, Fire-type, Fox Pokémon.
Ability: Flash Fire
Moves: Ember, Disable, Tail Whip.
Born with a single white tail, its tail splits as it grows, increasing in number and becoming more beautiful."
The Pokédex's robotic voice echoed.
"What's this?" Chu Kelian asked curiously, hearing the device's detailed description.
"It's the Pokédex. Miss Bai purchased it from me previously. It helps you better understand Pokémon," Gu Xin explained.
"You're still new to Pokémon, so it's natural to have many questions. But all of this can be learned in time. For now..."
Gu Xin turned to Chu Kelian, who was fiddling with the shop's Pokédex.
"What about Charmander, Miss Chu?"
"Oh, right! Charmander!" Chu Kelian's eyes lit up as she looked at Gu Xin.
Gu Xin had just confirmed that Charmander could breathe fire, just like Vulpix!
"Please wait a moment."
With a polite nod, Gu Xin headed to the back room.
"This place seems to be full of secrets... And that six-tailed little fox can actually breathe fire..."
As Gu Xin disappeared into the back, Chu Kelian finally voiced her thoughts. Her mind was flooded with questions.
Pokémon? Attributes?
Were these creatures really just pets? They could breathe fire and spray water…
"The shop has a license, and honestly, isn't it great this way?" Lin Sheng said, hugging Vulpix tighter.
He had plenty of questions too, but what mattered most was that he loved Vulpix.
And now, knowing Vulpix could breathe fire, he loved it even more.
"Torrent ability. When its stamina is low, its Water-type moves are boosted?" Bai Qianqian muttered, reading through Squirtle's detailed ability description in her Pokédex.
"So that's what this Pokédex does."
Chu Kelian toyed with the shop's Pokédex, aiming it at Diancie, who was quietly watching TV.
"Beep~ Diancie. Rock and Fairy-type, Jewel Pokémon.
Ability: Clear Body.
Moves: Diamond Storm, Moonblast, Stone Edge, Rock Slide, Light Screen, Ancient Power, etc.
A mutated form of Carbink. Its pink, shimmering body is praised as the most beautiful in the world. It can compress carbon in the air into diamonds instantly, a mythical Pokémon of legend."
The Pokédex's mechanical voice described Diancie in detail.
The three stared at Diancie, who turned toward them upon hearing the Pokédex.
They couldn't understand everything, but one thing was clear:
This adorable, elegant Diancie...
It seemed to be a big deal.
