Sang Liu was taken aback by Nathan's "enthusiastic" welcome. On his way here, he had been slightly apprehensive, wondering if Nathan would refuse to even acknowledge him.

After all, Nathan's demeanor in the court had shown he was exceptionally principled, someone who might very well look down on Liu simply for being the son of a so-called "treacherous chancellor." Liu had already prepared himself for rejection.

It seems Nathan, though highly principled, is not overly rigid or arrogant, thought Sang Liu, feeling pleased. He quietly noted how Nathan didn't let his father's reputation affect their meeting, which was rare in his experience. As the son of a chancellor, Liu was used to people judging him before they even met.

Old Huang brought tea, placing it before the two men, then respectfully exited the room.

"Just now, Brother Liu mentioned that I'm in mortal danger?" Nathan's eyes shone with intense interest, clearly invigorated.

Sang Liu sipped his tea, noting its humble taste, brewed from the cheapest of tea leaves and served in simple, chipped cups.

Clearly, he's a frugal man, Liu observed, impressed. Ever since entering the courtyard, Liu had been keenly observing Nathan's behavior and surroundings. This mission wasn't merely about executing Chancellor Liu's plan for the "honey trap"—he was also to evaluate Nathan as a person. After all, seeing for oneself was better than simply relying on rumors.

"So, this means the Yuhua Sect plans to assassinate me?" Nathan could barely contain his excitement. "When will they make their move?"

Brother He truly is remarkable, thought Liu, awed by Nathan's calm response. Nathan appeared almost cheerful at the news that the Yuhua Sect was targeting him. This must be what it means to be unshaken even when facing a mountain collapse.

"Yuhua Sect has a busy schedule preparing for their ancestral celebration," Sang Liu replied. "They won't be able to act immediately."

Hearing this, Nathan's anticipation visibly dimmed. So my death sentence is postponed again?

No. He couldn't rely on others to take him down; he needed to be proactive in his efforts.

Nathan, suddenly inspired, asked, "Brother Liu, surely this city has its fair share of powerful figures—those one simply can't afford to offend?"

Sang Liu blinked, momentarily surprised by the question. But he quickly replied, "Naturally. The capital is brimming with powerful individuals—both visible and hidden. May I ask, Brother Nathan, why you're curious about such figures?"

Unable to reveal his true intentions, Nathan chose a diplomatic answer.

"I am, after all, a mere Keeper of the Seal, a man with limited perspective," he said smoothly. "Meeting you, Brother Liu, is a rare opportunity. Since you're the son of the chancellor, with extensive knowledge of the capital's intricacies, I couldn't pass up the chance to learn more."

Sang Liu nodded approvingly. "Indeed, Brother Nathan. The capital is a place where dragons and tigers hide, filled with unseen perils. But perhaps we should continue this conversation elsewhere?"

Without hesitation, Nathan agreed, and the two made their way into the bustling heart of the capital.

The capital's inner districts contrasted starkly with the city's outskirts. They moved through vibrant streets with intricate decor and lively colors, each corner offering a unique scene.

Suddenly, Sang Liu paused, leading Nathan to a lavish establishment.

"Spring Breeze Pavilion?" Nathan glanced at the sign above the door. The doorway's finely dressed attendants hinted at its nature.

"A brothel?" Nathan raised an eyebrow. He was intent on pursuing death, not interested in visiting women.

"Is this your first time at the Spring Breeze Pavilion, Brother Nathan?" Liu asked, gesturing to the finely crafted building. "This isn't an ordinary brothel but one of the capital's most elegant establishments. The women here are more than just beautiful—they're cultured, talented, and refined. Only men of high status or rare talent are even considered."

"Oh, so it's a high-end brothel?" Nathan deadpanned.

Liu chuckled wryly. No sense of romance at all, he thought. Nonetheless, Liu didn't contradict him. Though refined, this place was indeed a brothel in the end.

"Within this establishment, there is one individual whose authority is beyond question," Liu continued.

"Well, since we're here, we might as well take a look," Nathan said, a gleam of hope returning to his eyes. Perhaps I'll find a real chance to meet my end here.

With that, he stepped forward, entering the famous Spring Breeze Pavilion for the first time in his two lives.

Inside, the elegant beauty of the building took Nathan by surprise. Every corner of the pavilion reflected meticulous design—elaborate carvings, graceful bridges over serene ponds. It was evident that a master artisan had been responsible for the decor.

Distinguished men and graceful women mingled, each one either charming or refined. It was challenging to remember that this place was indeed a brothel.

"Ah, Lord Liu, welcome back!" A familiar young attendant greeted Liu with a respectful bow.

"Prepare my private room and bring out all the house specialties. Today, I want to celebrate with Brother Nathan until we're both satisfied," Sang Liu ordered.

They settled into the private room, where Nathan was about to ask about the powerful figure Liu had mentioned when loud noises erupted from the main hall.

Opening the window, they witnessed a lively commotion below.
