Monkey King was indeed staring fixedly at Gao Cuilan, thinking to himself, wow, she really does look even more beautiful up close!
It turned out the system wasn't at fault—the blunder lay entirely with those five bumbling Guardians!
As Monkey King continued gazing at Gao Cuilan, even the Five Guardians were left slack-jawed. According to the original plan, Gao Cuilan should have been locked in the backyard, sealed away by Pigsy's spell, making it impossible for anyone else to open. But now she was standing here in plain sight, safe and sound.
What in the world was going on?
The Guardians exchanged bewildered glances, each as baffled as the last.
"System, youre amazing! I apologize for ever doubting you!" Monkey King couldn't help but grin with satisfaction, feeling like flowers were blooming in his heart. In his current guise as a dashing young gentleman rather than his usual monkey form, he looked perfect next to Gao Cuilan—a stroke of genius to use this disguise!
With Gao Cuilan's reassurances, Patriarch Gao finally steadied himself and began sizing up his visitors.
Monkey King, with his refined appearance and distinguished bearing, seemed anything but ordinary—clearly a person of wealth and importance. As for Tripitaka, while he looked rather delicate, his imposing mount (even if it was a massive tortoise) hinted at an unusual level of control, making him seem equally reliable.
"Please, venerable monk, save us!" Patriarch Gao dropped to his knees in supplication, joined by his attendants and Gao Cuilan.
With a flick of his wrist, Monkey King blew a puff of immortal breath, ensuring that Gao Cuilan wouldn't kneel. This young woman was his, after all—how could she be allowed to bow to anyone else? The rest of the crowd? He couldn't care less.
Gao Cuilan, struggling to kneel, realized that Monkey King was deliberately preventing her from doing so. She cast a red-faced glare at him, but gave up on kneeling, feeling oddly flustered by the dashing young man's charm.
Noticing Gao Cuilan's unusual reaction, Patriarch Gao was delighted. This must truly be a highly skilled person to wield such abilities. And since the monk on the tortoise's back was this young man's master, he must be even more formidable!
"Rise, everyone. My disciple and I came here specifically to deal with the pig demon," Tripitaka declared. With a meaningful glance at Monkey King, he signaled for a bit of support in maintaining his dignified aura.
Monkey King caught the hint and exhaled another wave of immortal breath, helping everyone to their feet.
"Great masters indeed! Please, come inside!" Patriarch Gao, full of gratitude, invited Tripitaka and his disciple into the house to discuss the situation.
Once seated, Tripitaka began gathering information.
"Amitabha. Gao Benefactor, could you tell us about this pig demon? Your servant, Gao Cai, didn't give us much detail."
"...What?" Patriarch Gao looked utterly confused, not understanding what Tripitaka was talking about.
"The truth is," Tripitaka continued, "my disciple and I were on our way to the West for the scriptures when your servant suddenly blocked our path, begging us to come and subdue the pig demon terrorizing your village. So, we came straight here."
"Uh…" Patriarch Gao was dumbfounded. This pig demon incident was only three days old; he hadn't considered seeking a master's help yet.
"Steward, where is Gao Cai?" Patriarch Gao asked, hoping for clarification.
"Master, Gao Cai left early this morning, but his whereabouts are unknown," replied the steward with a shrug.
Patriarch Gao was floored. Since when had his servant become so perceptive, going ahead, and making arrangements like this? He'll pay for this later—doesn't he know to keep family troubles private!
But Tripitaka had already gotten his answer: it was clear this situation had been orchestrated yet again.
"Taigong, let's start with what you know about the pig demon," Tripitaka suggested, gently redirecting the conversation.
"It's a family disgrace…" Patriarch Gao sighed, recounting the events in detail.
Everything went smoothly initially, just as Monkey King had remembered: Pigsy, with his diligence, had won over Patriarch Gao, who took him on as a son-in-law. But then things went awry on the wedding night…
On the evening of the wedding, Patriarch Gao's youngest daughter, Gao Cuilan, was set to be married, with her new husband entering the family as a live-in son-in-law. The entire village was alive with celebration.
Patriarch Gao even brought out all his female relatives to join the festivities.
And that's when trouble struck!
Just as the bride and groom were about to bow to heaven and earth, Pigsy suddenly had a change of heart. Instead of marrying Gao Cuilan, he declared his affection for Patriarch Gao's sixth concubine, Madam Gao!
Patriarch Gao was livid. He pointed a trembling finger at Pigsy and cursed him out. If he didn't want to marry his daughter, why hadn't he said so sooner? Making a scene now was humiliating him in front of everyone!
But Pigsy was dead set on Madam Gao, threatening that if Patriarch Gao didn't agree to their union, he'd demolish Gao Village.
And adding fuel to the fire, Madam Gao herself knelt down and pleaded with Patriarch Gao to let them be together.
Seeing this brazen betrayal, Patriarch Gao felt his head throb with jealousy and shame, as if a vast green field of grass had sprouted on his head. He was furious, ready to sentence them both to the pig cage right then and there!
Enraged by Patriarch Gao's resistance, Pigsy finally revealed his true form, rampaging through the house and ultimately fleeing with Madam Gao into the night.
It was only then that Patriarch Gao realized he'd taken in a demon as his son-in-law. He promptly fainted from the shock.
