Picking up from where we left off...

September 23rd, cloudy. I finally got out again today. No matter what, I'm going to prove I wasn't lying. They're all cowards, afraid of the dark and making up stories about giant spiders.

September 24th, cloudy. I went to the fourth floor yesterday. It was still dark, but I made a new friend there. We played hide and seek, and I found him. We promised to play again next time.

September 26th, cloudy. I went to the fourth floor again today to play hide and seek with my friend. This time, it was his turn to find me. I hid really well, and he couldn't find me. It got dark, so I went home. I wonder if he'll be mad.

September 27th, cloudy. I went to the fourth floor again today, but I couldn't find my friend. Is he still looking for me?

The diary abruptly ended on that day, with no further entries after that.

[Why didn't this kid listen?]

[He was warned, but he just had to keep going. Some people just want to play.]

[So is this kid still alive?]

[If he were, the diary wouldn't have stopped there.]

Chen Shang took out the black notebook he had found earlier and flipped to the records for September. Sure enough, on September 27th, there was an entry that related to the boy's fate.

At 1:00 a.m. on September 27th, a young boy was found dead in the men's bathroom on the fourth floor of A-wing. His body was in the last stall, but his head was missing. Blood had painted the bathroom walls red.

The next morning, the boy's head was discovered in the grass behind A-wing, directly below the bathroom window.

When they found the head, it was mangled and barely recognizable, as if it had been chewed on by something. Even the boy's father couldn't identify him. Only after a DNA test was it confirmed that this was indeed the decapitated boy found in the bathroom.

The notebook also included a record of the boy's diagnosis—delusional disorder. He frequently imagined himself as a bird and had a history of attempting dangerous activities, often dreaming of jumping from tall buildings.

This matched the description in the boy's diary.

"So, what clues can we gather from cross-referencing the diary with the notebook?" Chen Shang mused aloud.

[Uh, don't tempt fate, or you'll meet a bad end?]

[Maybe B-wing's fourth floor is a high-risk area?]

[Here we go again with the streamer flexing his brain. I'm out.]

[Wait, is the streamer actually smart?]

[Go watch the replay yourself.]

Unable to see the chat, Chen Shang continued his analysis.

"The entity on the fourth floor of B-wing likely has a changing appearance. Normally, it takes the form of a boy, but when it gets serious, it becomes a giant spider. Of course, it's also possible that two separate monsters exist on the fourth floor, but that seems less likely."

"The creature hunts in the form of a game of hide and seek, with two stages. In the first stage, you search for it, which probably isn't dangerous. In the second stage, it searches for you, and if it finds you..." Chen Shang mimicked slitting his throat with his hand.

"Of course, that's just the surface-level clue. There are two deeper clues here, but I'll leave you guessing for now. I'll reveal them when the time comes."

Smiling, Chen Shang put the two notebooks away and headed toward the stairs to the fourth floor.

[Again with the half-truths! He's leaving us hanging!]

[This shameless streamer loves to leave things unfinished!]

[Some people just want to watch the world burn.]

[If I ever get a knife in hand, I'll rid the world of cliffhangers like this guy.]

The chat buzzed with complaints, but even if Chen Shang could see them, he wouldn't care. He'd probably just laugh.

Upon reaching the fourth floor, he found the layout to be identical to the third. Chen Shang proceeded to slide open each window and peer inside, just as he had done on the third floor, checking for any information-providing inmates.

However, after searching the entire floor, he found nothing of note.

Just as he was about to leave, the door of the room closest to him suddenly slammed loudly, as if someone had thrown their body against it.

The loud noise didn't scare Chen Shang, but it did make him frown. He distinctly remembered that the person in that room had been quiet when he checked earlier.

As he contemplated returning to check on the source of the noise, the slamming continued, echoing from various doors across the fourth floor.

The sound of fists pounding on doors filled the air.

[Whoa, that scared me!]

[Didn't you say A-wing was supposed to be safe? I almost jumped out of my seat!]

Chen Shang halted, frowning as he reconsidered. Everything in A-wing had gone according to his predictions so far, so why was this happening now?

"It's the time," he realized, turning and sprinting for the stairs, racing downward.

As he passed the third floor, he could hear the same pounding on the doors there, too. The sound was intense and deafening, reverberating throughout the halls.

Chen Shang ran as fast as he could back to the first floor, dashing through the corridor. At the end of the hall, he glanced at the clock hanging on the wall, its blood-red digits reading 1:50 a.m.
